The Ports Regulator of South Africa was established in terms of section 29 of the National Ports Act, 2005 (Act No. 12 of 2005). It is a Schedule 3A Public Entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No. 1 of 1999).

The vision of the Ports Regulator is to be regarded nationally, and internationally as a world class institution which sets the standards for economic regulation in maritime ports. The Ports Regulator of South Africa invites applications from suitably qualified persons to serve as Members of its Audit and Risk Committee. The role of the committee is to provide independant assurance and assistance on matters relating to control, governance and risk management.

The applicants must have the neccessary and applicable qualifications, knowledge and experience to serve on the Ports Regulator Audit and Risk Committee. Only South African citizens as “natural persons” may apply. (as opposed to “juristic persons”).

Required qualifications:

  • CA / CIA / CISA / LLB / MBA / Economics
  • Maritime / Built Environment qualifications will also be considered
  • Membership of a Professional Body or admission as an Attorney or Advocate or Risk Management Profession

Key requirements:

  • Competency, understanding and experience: Previous Audit Committee experience in the Public Sector, Governance and Risk Management, Internal Audit, IT Governance, Financial Reporting, Financial Statements, Internal Controls, Combined Assurance, Internal and External Audit processes, Performance Management, compliance with the PFMA, other applicable legislation and best practice, conducting investigations where necessary.
  • Experience/knowledge of the Maritime sector will be an added advantage

Term of office:

The term of office of members of the Audit Committee is 2 (two) years.



In addition to travel and accommodation costs, Members shall be compensated for time spent and work done as determined in line with the National Treasury Remuneration Guidelines for Commissions & Committees of Inquiry and Audit Committees subject to approval by the Executive Authority. A person who is an employee of National, Provincial, or Local Government or an employee of an Institution, Agency or Entity of Government shall not be entilted to receive any additional remuneration if they are appointed to serve on the Ports Regulator Audit and Risk Committee.

Persons should not have a recent/direct/indirect interest in the regulated entity/group. There shall be 4 (four) meetings of the Committee in a financial year. Special Meetings may also be held. Meetings shall ordinarily take place at the Ports Regulator offices in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

    • Detailed Curriculum Vitae and motivation for appointment
    • Certified copy of Identity document and qualifications
    • Verification of foreign applications by SAQA
    • Background verification, qualification checks, criminal record and ciizen checks shall form part of the selection process
    • No late applications shall be accepted
    • Strict compliance with the application requirements and selections procedures shall be adhered to.
